The costs of electricity and gas in Hungary, among lowest in EU

According to the recent information gathered during the 1st half of 2020, by the statistical agency Eurostat, Hungary featured well in terms of the costs for Household Gas and Electricity.


Hungary’s Electricity prices during 2020 ranked 2nd-lowest in the EU at Euros 10.3 per 100 kWh, while the country jointly shared the position for the lowest price for its natural gas at Euros 3.2 per 100 kWh.

During the 1st half of period of 2020, the average prices of household electricity costs in the European Union declined moderately, when compared with the period the year before. During the 1st half of 2019 the average cost was at €21.6 per 100 kWh; while for the corresponding period in 2020, the average cost across the EU stood at €21.3 per 100 kWh. Average gas prices across the EU, for the 1st half of 2020 were practically steady, standing at €6.6 per 100 kWh.
